Join us

If you are interested in joining us, here are some details that hopefully will give you the information you need. If you have further questions or wish to know our current vacancies, please contact us.

Standard of Playing

There are no formal auditions. The principal requirements are that members are able to play their parts after practice and attend rehearsals regularly and punctually. The music we play usually requires Grade 8 standard, perhaps lower for secondary parts. We particularly welcome players formerly of this standard who are returning to orchestral playing after a break because of, for example, other studies or raising a family - we call them 'Rusties'. We find they quickly improve to their previous standard.

Members pay a non-refundable subscription of £45.00, payable at the beginning of each of our three terms, reducing pro-rata for those joining during a term. Full-time students are completely exempt. Prospective members are welcome to attend up to two rehearsals before payment of the subscription.

Rehearsals are held in Saint Bartholomew's Hall, Ellison Road, Streatham, SW16 5DE every Monday evening, 8-10pm, except the first Monday after concerts and breaks for Christmas, Easter and summer. There is usually a short break for tea and biscuits. Click here for a map of our location.

Soloists and extras

Over the years we have featured a number of excellent soloists from all the Royal Schools of Music, Chetham's and Oxford University. Please contact us if you would like to join our list of soloists.

If you can't play with us regularly, or play an instrument that is not normally needed at every concert (harp, percussion, saxophone, guitar, etc.) and would like to join our list of extras, please get in touch.
